This is a Relics of the true cross on which Jesus was crucified on and was quickly distributed after its legendary discovery in the fourth century by Saint Helena which is the first Roman empire. This small box decorated with cloisonne enamel and niello is on of the earliest examples of a reliquary. The sliding lid decorated with a crucifixion scene and busts of saints has four episodes from the life of Christ on its underside; Annunciation, Nativity, Crucifixion, and Anastasis. The lid slides back to reveal five interior relic compartments arranged in the shape of an cross. On the lid it shows Christ Flanked by the moring figures of the Virgin and Saint John shown alive on the cross wearing a long tunic.

The Romans also believed that having the favor of the gods was very important. The Roman rulers treated conquered peoples wisely. Generally the Romans did not force their way of life on conquered peoples. Romans religion was like the Greeks religion they practice polytheism and offered prayers and sacrifices to their gods. The Roman society was made up of a few rich people and many poor free people and slaves.




CURRENT EVENTS:

In commenting upon a recent accident on an Italian railway, the statement was made in these columns to the effect that the transportation service of the Peninsula was the worst in the world. A patriotic Italian has sent a communication making a general denial.
